How Will the Size of My Air Conditioner Affect Its Performance?

Investing in a new air conditioner is a pretty considerable expense for most of us, and it is not something that you want to allow any guesswork when doing. That is why we encourage you to work with our knowledgeable technicians if you are ready to schedule an air conditioning installation or replacement in Capitol Hill. That way, you’ll not only know for certain that you’re getting the right AC for your personal preferences, but also that it is of the right size for your home. This is more important than you may realize.

Why Is Proper AC Sizing So Necessary?

In order to cool your home as effectively and reliably as possible, you need a properly sized air conditioning system. They don’t just come in S, M, L, XL, etc. You must have a cooling load calculation completed for your property in order to determine precisely what size of an air conditioner will best fit therein. Only then can you hope to enjoy the great performance that you deserve.

Most people understand that an undersized air conditioner is going to be problematic, as it just won’t be able to thoroughly cool your home. It is going to run in very long cycles as it struggles to do so, and that can burn through energy very quickly. Ultimately, you may wind up paying more money for a lesser performance from an undersized system, and it will probably have a shortened lifespan due to the strain.

While you may assume that an oversized air conditioner is inherently a better option than an undersized one, this is actually not the case. Both are problematic, if in different ways. An oversized system can actually cool your home down too quickly. This may not sound like much of a problem, but it can cause your system to short cycle, which wastes energy and puts unnecessary wear and tear on the system as it starts and stops too frequently. Plus, your AC won’t be able to dehumidify the air over the course of a full cooling cycle, which can adversely affect your indoor air quality.

Work with Polar Bear Air Conditioning & Heating Inc. to find the right AC for your home.
