Ask an HVAC Contractor: Why Schedule Heating Maintenance?

AC-technician-workingAre there any questions that you’ve ever wanted to ask your HVAC contractor in Capitol Hill, WA? We understand that you are probably not just calling us every time a question pops into mind, and we hope that you understand just how busy our schedules are and the limitations that this can put on such practices. We do love sharing our knowledge with our clients, though, so we spent some time coming up with a few common questions that we suspect most homeowners share.

Today, as we move out of the summer season and await winter’s chill, we want to talk about heating maintenance. Specifically, we want to lay to rest any notions that you may have about heating maintenance being optional. It is, technically–you are in charge of your heater. In terms of getting the most from your heating system, however, routine heating maintenance is 100% mandatory. With the following information in mind, we think you’ll understand why.

It Protects Your Comfort

Over the course of a single winter season, your heating system is going to do an incredible amount of work. There are points at which your heater is going to be running pretty much non-stop, when the days don’t warm up to a comfortable temperature and the nights are downright frigid. Asking that level of performance from any mechanical system is to set it up for failure if the system in question is not routinely tuned-up. Remember, routine maintenance is a preventative measure. You’re not waiting for something to go wrong before scheduling maintenance. It’s all about ensuring that the system is already in the best working condition possible once you need it, so that you don’t suffer discomfort due to a subpar performance.

It Protects Efficiency

Do you know what is worse than being uncomfortable because your heater is not generating enough heat? Being overcharged for an underwhelming performance, that’s what! Just because your heater is up and running does not mean that it is running at peak performance levels, and it certainly does not mean that it is running at peak efficiency levels. By having your system tuned up annually, you can keep it operating as efficiently as possible in order to keep your heating costs in check.

It Protects Your System

We’ve mentioned that routine heating maintenance can protect the performance quality of your heater, but it also protects the heater itself. Chances are that you are going to wind up scheduling heating repairs more frequently–and requiring those of a more serious and costly nature–if you fail to schedule heating maintenance than you would if your system was kept tuned up. Trust us, our heating contractors are some of the best in the business. If your damaged system can be fixed, we’re the ones to fix it. Wouldn’t it be better to prevent such problems from developing in the first place, though?
