Only Professionals Can Tune Up HVAC Systems

technician-workingAs HVAC professionals, one of the worst opinions that we can hear any of our valued clients express is that they do not understand why routine air conditioning maintenance in Loudoun County is so important. A close runner-up, however, is that they do understand that regular tune-ups are necessary—but they think that they can handle them themselves. We are here to reiterate not just that routine AC maintenance is vital, but that it is a job that must be left to trained professionals.

As you will be reminded when the heat starts to rise this cooling season, an air conditioner is much more than a luxury during our hot and humid summer seasons. It is a necessity. It only makes sense, then, that you should do everything possible to keep your system in great working condition. The good news is that doing so is simple. You need only call our number to schedule annual air conditioning maintenance with our fine technicians.

Why Can’t I Do It Myself?

The short answer is that it is simply too complex a job for even the most avid and informed DIY enthusiast to handle. There is a lot more to air conditioning maintenance than you may realize. Nearly every step of the process requires the type of skill,  expertise, and equipment that only extensively trained technicians possess. Does this mean that there is nothing you can do to help keep your system up and running properly? Not at all!

  1. Change your air filter. This sounds basic, and it is! But guess what? It is also necessary. A dirty air filter can cause all sorts of problems, most stemming from the simple fact that a dirty filter can greatly increase the airflow resistance through the system. Changing your filter every 1–3 months is the most effective maintenance step that you can complete on your own.
  2. Keep the outdoor unit clean. If you mow the lawn and blast grass clippings all over the outdoor AC unit, you can just hose it down. This will help to keep it clean and will facilitate the release of heat via the fins on the unit. Also, make sure that you remove any tree limbs or other yard waste from the top of the unit.
  3. Keep the drain assembly clear. Your air conditioner removes some moisture from the air as it runs. Pouring a simple solution like vinegar or peroxide can help to keep the drain line clear so that it can remove the condensation effectively. If you’re not comfortable doing this, we’ll handle it during maintenance.

There’s a Lot More Ground to Cover

Those basic steps are a good start to ongoing maintenance, but they really only scratch the service. When we tune up your system, we can complete a deep clean. We’ll lubricate moving parts as needed. We’ll test your motor, capacitors, electrical contacts, thermostat, etc. We can find loose connections and tighten them up, all while identifying potential problems in development. We can evaluate the system for proper refrigerant charge, and much more.

When your system is well-maintained, it just works better. It reduces energy consumption, while also keeping the risk of repair needs to a minimum. Do not miss out on all that routine AC maintenance has to offer.
