Are You Using the Right Air Cleaner?

This time of the year, with temperatures as cold as they are, a lot of homeowners are pretty focused on their heating systems. This is totally reasonable, but it is important that you don’t get too single-minded when it comes to your comfort. Remember that indoor air quality plays a major role, as well.

That is why you may want to use an air cleaner in Georgetown. The question then is which air cleaner or air purifier is right for you. Not all of these systems serve the same function, after all.

Do You Need Pollutant Removal or Destruction?

Most air cleaning systems rely upon the removal of pollutants from the air, either by using a filtering media or by a more active process. The electronic precipitator, for instance, pulls air into an ionization chamber. When the pollutants in the air are ionized and given an electric charge, they are then trapped on oppositely charged collector plates. These plates are then simply removed and cleaned off.

Now, air filters or electronic air cleaners are all well and good when it comes to pollutants like dust and dirt. They don’t fare as well against biological pollutants, though. These microorganisms, such as viruses, mold, and bacteria, are so small that most residential air filters cannot trap them. That’s not the only problem, however.

Because they are living microorganisms, these pollutants are also capable of reproduction. When they are trapped on collector plates or a high-efficiency filter, they can still reproduce. Using a pollutant destruction-based system, like UV air purifiers, helps to destroy these pollutants, rendering them incapable of reproduction and making your home a more healthy place in which to live.
